Now I absolutely adore Meg Cabot. She has a spunky, quirky writing style. Unlike everybody else who reads her, I haven't read the Princess Diaries series. I started with the Mediator series, which features a ghost butt kicking heroine—it's pretty fun. Then I read several of her YA stand-alone novels. Devouring her historical fiction YA novels was a natural progression.

Their love story—and no this is not a spoiler because it's obvious from the beginning to anybody with a brain—is one of those love/hate, Elizabeth Bennet/Mr. Darcy ones. Honestly, those are my favorites. I love the angst and turmoil, and that moment where they fall from hate to love, or realize that there was never hate but love. Victoria's exploits in England are humorous and spirited, though somewhat unlikely, and the ending is a natural progression and rather satisfying.
All in all, a great book. Score another one for Meg Cabot.
